Is this a real market, or just a pitch?
There is an active market. Our licensing partner says it has paid $350,000 to $650,000 to companies with 60 to 100 people; a federal court filing also shows Google's $10 million winning bid for Spirit Airlines' records. These transactions involved other companies, not us. You'll receive your offer in writing before making a commitment, and many companies get offers below these amounts.
What do I pay?
Nothing, at any point. When a deal closes, Pewter earns a fee from our licensing partner. No deal means no fee.
What are your roles, and who do you represent?
Pewter identifies and qualifies the opportunity, assesses your records, brings you the offer and coordinates the deal. Our licensing partner presents the offer, signs the license with you and pays you. You find out the partner's identity before signing anything. Because the partner pays us, we are not your lawyer or agent. We are not a law firm or registered broker-dealer; we recommend having your own counsel review the agreement.
Do I give up my data?
No. The deal covers a mutually agreed de-identified copy. Your original files and your ownership of them stay unchanged.
Might clients or employees be identified?
Before delivery, credentials, payment details, account numbers, names and contact details are removed or replaced. You can exclude regulated, privileged or third-party records. No method eliminates all risk, so you inspect the process and a sample before signing. How records are handled.
Who may view my records before I sign?
Nobody without your permission. Before an offer, we may ask to check a small sample for quality; Pewter or the licensing partner might review it. You decide what the sample contains and may say no. The full export takes place only after you sign.
Who uses the data, and why?
Authorized AI developers can use it for model evaluation and training, as your agreement defines. The terms you approve spell out permitted uses and Exclusivity. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, explains terms and questions to resolve before you sign.
How much time will my team need to spend?
Plan on a few hours for a short inventory of your systems and two or three calls. If an export is required, your IT person or provider runs it, with us coordinating. No one needs to create new data or tidy anything up.
What if I don't know what data we have?
That's true for most owners. On the call, tell us which tools you've used over the years, for example your accounting or operating system, shared drives or email, and we'll figure out what's there. Prefer to estimate it yourself first? Our free guide explains how to locate the numbers in Slack, Google, Microsoft 365 and a dozen other tools.
Why consider acting now?
Labs are buying already. One AI data company alone has committed $1 billion for the coming twelve months. Your history is where the value sits: if subscriptions expire or a company closes, archives get erased and that value disappears.
